Ey Detox, I hear that and I can see the beauty in simplicity too. I know there's a lot more to any music than what you know how to do - I'm not looking at the music solely as a means of showing off any technical wizardry I am developing or may have developed. As a [pseudo]musician and an artist I see drum and bass as merely a genre buried in a vast swath of others in which I can express myself.
So when I write tunes, I really do express myself with them. If you've ever heard any of my other tunes on here, you would know that within drum and bass I tend to be pretty diverse stylistically. I do this both meaningfully and willfully. ;) I don't want to pigeonhole myself into one particular sound because some styles just aren't appropriate for the mood or emotion i'm expressing or trying to get across. What comes out when I write pretty much just depends on where my head's at. My life's been a bit of a rollercoaster lately, and I'm an overanalytical motherfucker so I've got a lot of things in my head to process at once these days. Hence I'm tending towards more techy stuff lately. Just seems apt. :) I know the technical / well processed thing isn't always good. Perhaps in some way I've even overdone the processing a bit. But it felt right at the time and I'm happy with the results, which is all that really matters in the end, cause even if everyone hated my tunes I'd still make them :) I appreciate your feedback and I'm actually pretty stoked that you compared my tune to to pendulum and the stuff on dsci4, because I was actually considering shopping some tunes out that way and this is one of em! ;) Respect. ~andy -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 12:04 AM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] Re: phrantek - intellectual slut yah the tunes not bad. sounds quite dsc4i esque and quite pendulum almost. i dont mean that in the structure but in how the actually sound comes across. very technical and well processed but im not sure that is always a good thing. a lot of people strive for perfection when i am personally happy with a quality and catchy groove with varying breaks and quality traditional sub bass. keep up the good work tho!!!! its certainly healthy for our scene. dj detox (www.dnbradio.com) > Message date : Jan 29 2004, 02:48 AM > From : "Andy Abang" > To : "Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List" > Copy to : > Subject : [dnb-prod] Re: phrantek - intellectual slut > Thank you :) > > I actually just use logic's built-in multiband compression unit > (Multipressor). > > In fact lately I pretty much only use standard logic plugins.
