1st ever comment on this discussion list, been working on tracks on and off for years, made a few home published albums but nowt serious. Always been low on kit and time. Really wanna make an effort before I get too old. For some reason, couldn't play Sleek, player would die after about 10 secs... ?..
welcome. lets here some of your tunes :)
Data theft has a wicked, dirty intro, not too sure about the kick drum
when it goes a little ott when used in fills. What makes this track is
definitely that sweeping sub, awesome! I think the tracks missing
something, not sure what.
i'll agree with what you said... i think the bass is cool and i like what you are trying to do with this, but the kick and snare are a bit weak. basically, i think these tunes definitely show promise, but they
kind of miss in very subtle, hard to define ways. all i can really say is keep at it, experiment with some new drums sound, blending separate kicks together with carefull EQ and compression to try to make a new punchier kick, etc.
i like the variations you start throwing into the bassline, but i want to hear that grittiness in the basssline much more up front. how you tried spliting the bass into two effects tracks, hi passing one of them and and playing with distortion/eq/compression to bring out the grit? i
think this bass sound is thick enough to do well with that.
sleek : this one is more my style and is a bit more promising. its good, but also seems to be missing something, which i think really just comes down to experience, please take my comments as contructive since i
think you have a lot of promise in these tunes. i think sometimes it flow of the synths getts a little too syncapated and stacatto, sort of looses it flow. the stabby sound alone at 2:48 is pretty weak... i think you need to spend some time with those synth sound to thicken them. try mucking with detuning the oscilators, effects and/or layering
other similar synth on top of those lines to make the soudn a little more deep. plyus... where's the bass? i think you could do with a simple clean sub bass banging away underneither this tune to give it some fullness.
keep it up man!
