I recommend active.dat in the workarea as well.
If you have a rule filter defined in newsfeeds.conf then that should also
be backed up.
If you have local news groups in a pile of their own, then consider backing up
those db_NNN_PILENUMBER.itm files with any automated backup script you are
writing.
Nothing else springs to mind.
