When dnews first connects to an upstream server it asks for a lists of all
groups
and unless you have told it otherwise it adds all of them.
You can stop this by adding to dnews.conf
active_static true
then only groups you create manually will exist.
You can get rid of the groups you don't want with.
tellnews rmgroup "*"
tellnews undelete wanted.group.name
tellnews undelete wanted.group.name2
