Yes in a very round about way. You do it like this:
Create a news feed to filter the items you want but don't define a type for
it, e.g.
site filtered
groups *
rules ...
Then use an 'xmit' style dnews - mail gateway to send this feed to a mail box
Then use getmail.conf to suck these messages into a specific news group.

(xmit info) http://netwinsite.com/dnews/usage.htm#top
