Hi, The "Admin News Groups" is the list of groups where their given permissions can be used - e.g. if they have permission to delete messages, they are only able to do so in the groups matching this rule. This is to provide users with some ability to control groups (only really of use for private groups).
User groups are the groups people belong to. E.g. admin, programmers These groups are used along with the groups= setting in access.conf to control which news groups authenticated users can access based on their user group membership. *:read, post:$lookup$:$lookup$:*,!admin.* *:read,post:groups=admin::* The above gives all authenticated users to all groups other than admin.*, while the last line gives members of the admin group access to all groups, not excluding admin.*. Hope this explains the difference clearly enough. The use of the word 'groups' doesn't make this distinction clear unfortunately. - Roydon L. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Newsgroups: netwin.dnews To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 6:36 AM Subject: Admin News Groups ? > > Windows 2000 Pro > DNews 5.5h2 Admin Tool > > Menu: Configure > Users > > Pops up a new window titled: Find/Add User > > The 5th field is titled: Admin News Groups (e.g. comp.*) > > I am just hoping someone could clarify what this is as compared to the 7th field titled: User Groups (e.g. adults) > > TIA > -cypher >
