Hi,

I'm not sure what expire date you are referring to in the message, but the
'problem' is most likely caused by the way DNews expires articles.

If the old article has been fed in to the news system at some point, DNews
will treat it the same a new articles. All items are expired based on when
they actually arrive rather than when they are dated.

E.g. In expire.conf, 'days 20' means to expire the article when it has been
on the system for 20 days, and not when the article itself is past 20 days
by the date header. Day-based expiration isn't used much as it isn't
accurate on low-volue groups. DNews will only expire full bucket files where
all articles meet the expiration requirements.

I just noticed that when I recently requested articles from a new newsgroup,
I immediately got the "Group Download in Progress" message, but the date on
this message is quite old. E.g. I subscribed to Rec.Photo.Digital on
12/29/03 2PM and Outlook Express had the date sent as 10/30/2003 9PM.
However, the expire date in the message was today. I checked and both the
client workstation and the DNews server have the correct dates. Any idea if
this problem is from DNew or Outlook Express?
