Sadly that error is all from the reader, what we need is the 500... error
that the reader received which should give some clue.
The error in your log file indicates you need to increase max_items
max_items 150000
And / or move the control news groups to a short retention (1 day) pile.
But that is probably not the main problem.
Ideally capture an 'imsg' log covering the attempted post, and or the
in.log file may indicate the problem.
