The 'tellnews stats' command will give a considerable amount of information about what DNews has spent the time doing. This can be used to spot problems such as slow disk access, or xover data.
Feed and user connection issues are more complex as they depend on a variety of local and remote factors.
Perhaps if you can define in what way they are perceived to be 'slow' we can give some more details on what to look for and suggest improvements.
If the users is waiting a long time for the group list to appear, it may just be a slow system or have a large database of old messages. Some clients are just very inefficient at storing this information.
If the groups lag behind other servers, it may be a simple matter of increasing the frequency at which you suck news, or require a more complex fix such as an upgraded Internet connection.
The tellnews stats_in, stats_out, and status commands may also give you some useful information.
Unfortunately there isn't a magic command to tell you what, if anything, is wrong.

Hi, What do you use for performance monitoring? What metrics can I provide to my management that measures performance? I have a VP who thinks our newsgroups are slow, when I know they aren't.
Thanks, Katie
