Agree, except for the part of being siilar to C++. The language that does fit this description, and whose syntax is Pascalish, is Modula 3. Modula 3 is not obsolete, has garbage-colelcted OO features (without requirint you to use them), but has become severely underused in the last decade. It has in the past been used for operating system implementation. Modula 3 is not Modula 2, by the way. A completely different language.
