Hi,
Many, including me, ran into this a couple of days ago, xserver-xorg in
unstable (2:1.17.2-3)
now requires root privileges;
install xserver-xorg-legacy and add "needs_root_rights=yes" to
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config.
