In my opinion, Libre/OpenOffice writer is so bad that buying and
using MSWord, complete with giving profit to Microsoft, is preferable if
the choice were only between LibreOffice, Abiword and MSWord. 

However, that's a false choice kind of like either sysvinit or systemd:
It rules out a whole bunch of worthy alternatives, many of which are
better than either.

By the way, one thing LibreOffice Writer is great at is playing
Microsofties' silly game. They send you a word document, you edit it in
LibreOffice Writer and send it back. 

But I would *never* write any new content, over 10K words, in
LibreOffice Writer, whereas I would and have done such in MSWord
(before I switched to Linux).
