In my opinion, Libre/OpenOffice writer is so bad that buying and using MSWord, complete with giving profit to Microsoft, is preferable if the choice were only between LibreOffice, Abiword and MSWord. However, that's a false choice kind of like either sysvinit or systemd: It rules out a whole bunch of worthy alternatives, many of which are better than either. By the way, one thing LibreOffice Writer is great at is playing Microsofties' silly game. They send you a word document, you edit it in LibreOffice Writer and send it back. But I would *never* write any new content, over 10K words, in LibreOffice Writer, whereas I would and have done such in MSWord (before I switched to Linux).
