Tasksel just adds some extra packages, an upgrade will work that way but you'll save some time with just a base install.

See my user contributed docs for details -

Hello! I've been lurking this list since the fork announcement. Always
an interesting read.

I'm planning to give Devuan a try so I got a Debian 7.9 netinst image
(don't want to install jessie). Got it from here:

http://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/archive/7.9.0/i386/iso-cd/debian-7.9.0-i386-netinst.iso

My guess is that if nothing is installed from tasksel I shouldn't have
issues with the repositories (i. e. getting stuff from jessie instead
of wheezy), but I'm not sure and don't want to waste too much time
with the process.

Is it safe to do that? Thanks!
