As far as I know, there isn't a beta yet. I would be happy to be wrong. I installed devuan jessie from the second alpha a long time ago, , upgraded it regularly, and been happy with it. At the moment, I expect you would have to find the fourth alpha release. Some people have upgraded to devuan jessie from a Debian wheezy. That seems to work.
