No, it isn't neccesary.
Did you find systemd hangovers that aren't properly handled by the build
flags?
As far as I can see, if you use '--without-systemd', you do not get
anything to do with systemd.

I only ask because this approach will make maintenance rather burdonsome
rather then changing the build flags.
