golinux, Steve Litt, Jaromil: thanks for your comments.
The talk.devuan.org paper still shows on the first page of search with
duckduckgo.com [other search engines are available]. However, I have not
yet written about the Busybox version.
[Steve Litt]
You will be pleased that I have taken on-board your comments about "sleeps"
in rc.shutdown.
Now that I use mdev with a sensible /etc/mdev.conf, I no longer start udevd
at all [with the saving in time AND udev messing with network device
names]. In fact, the mini-initrd script from nairobi-embedded just uses
mdev [and not udev].
I, of course, reference "sin" [Dimitris Papastamos] in all formal
situations. Whilst Rich Felker's 16-line PID1 will have inspired sinit, I
have not tried incorporating the former in a proper init situation.
I would appreciate getting your feedback on the tiny initrd and new
sinit-rc scripts [once i have tidied them up]: what is the best way to get
them to you [this ml is wrong place, can I email them to you at
troubleshooters.com?].
[Jaromil]
When I write about the Busybox version of sinit-rc [as I call the original
sinit plus sh scripts rc.init and rc.shutdown], it should again be in
MarkDown format. I am not sure if it will fit in with dev1galaxy. I will
write it first. Sadly, I don't have a stand-alone markdown viewed [I used
the one on the talk.devuan.org site for paper1].
[golinux]
I registered with friendsofdevuan.org, but it does not seem friendly to
outsiders. I am not sure why this and dev-galaxy.org are not under the
devuan.org site/brand. There must be a good reason. Anyway, the 'galaxy
forum may be a suitable place to park the new paper.
I want to ditch dbus as well as udev, but firefox wants to run
dbus-{launch,daemon}.
