It's only jessie, so far, as I haven't downloaded ascii yet.
I did install ASCII that way on two machines; dd the iso file to a
usb stick (dd if=XXX.iso of=/dev/sdY bs=512k), then boot from that usb
stick. The installer then, as for you, checks for the cdrom and finds it
- on the usb stick.
