Okay, I did it via the cli only as per the steps 1 and 2 down the bottom of that post; then tried dpkg-reconfigure and found that due to the attempted install of the newer version, I needed to do more work to fix things ... but it's all good now. And it worked perfectly on a different box that hadn't had the errant install of the newer downloaded package. Thank you very much. Kind Regards AndrewM
