Hi all, GoLUG's monthly meeting is a discussion of several "Uncle" Bob Martin videos. In order of priority, here are the four that will/might be discussed:
1) The Future of Programming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecIWPzGEbFc 2) The Principles of Clean Architecture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_TH-Y78tt4 3) Clean Code - Uncle Bob / Lesson 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EmboKQH8lM 4) Clean Code - Uncle Bob / Lesson 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a_ytyt9sf8 Note that #1 should really be called "History of Programming: How we got to this point", because only the final few minutes deals with the future. You're probably asking, "Why is this ontopic for the Devuan list?" Watch video #1 and #2 and you'll know exactly. You'll know why adolescent clowns like Lennart Poettering are taken seriously. You'll hear why we continually proliferate new computer languages, even though productivity and quality don't benefit. You'll hear why it seems like each "development paradigm" seems worse than the last, and why Agile, which sounded so good, turned into such a turkey. You'll hear the disadvantages of monolithic entanglement (though Uncle Bob uses different names for it), and how to avoid monolithic entanglement. You'll hear how to refactor for crystal clear readability and understandability, and an explanation why such refactoring is rare in real life, even though it's very doable. Notice the preceding paragraph uses the phrase "you will hear" rather than "you will find out." It's expressed this way because, if you've been a developer (or VUA) for very long, you already knew this stuff. You knew it in your heart: That's why you gravitated to Devuan. What's special about "Uncle" Bob Martin's videos is a finely honed description of exactly why you and the few who agree with you have been right all along, in spite of the deafening propaganda of worshippers of entanglement. Tomorrow night, 7/1/2020, at 7pm Eastern (New York) time, Greater Orlando Linux User Group (GoLUG) will host a peer to peer discussion of these mentioned videos, on Jitsi, at URL https://meet.jit.si/bob . If, for some reason, we need to change this location, please refer to http://troubleshooters.com/golug.html for an updated URL.
