A good term. Close to what I mean. Of course I really want it to describe what a directory entry points to. But it's an established convention to name a pointer or thunk what it points to, so that's not too bad. I think the quest to find a term that's traditional in the Unix/Linux community is probably hopeless. As of now, I'll settle for something better than Thing. -- hendrik > > вс, 23 авг. 2020 г., 21:56 Steve Litt <[email protected]>: > > > On Sun, 23 Aug 2020 03:19:12 -0700 > > spiralofhope <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > > On Sun, 23 Aug 2020 09:59:53 -0400 > > > Hendrik Boom <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > > > > Is there an establiched word in the Linux/Unix xommunity > > > > for something which might be a file or a directory? > > > > > > Perhaps something like inode? > > > > Inode is a number used to locate a file or directory, so it's the wrong > > word for this purpose.
