It's interesting to note that most of the software diversity growth in the DNS space has been for alternative authoritative servers. At least for the larger players in the TLD space, they probably have enough clue and resources to not fit into the "most organizations" category But I have to say, IME whenever I have gone to great lengths to diversify infrastructure, the failure mode that bites you is all too often the SPoF one didn't think of.
