Perhaps the most breathtaking example of DNS cluelessness from what one
imagines to be a fairly major US registrar seen here in 8+ years - and I
thought the topic of my attached (polite, you'll notice) message to them
to which this was the response, was already well up there ..
Cheers, Ian

Hello,
for the last several days that I've noticed, these have been appearing
in our mail logs (reformatted for clarity):
Nov 1 21:38:21 gaia sendmail[23504]: VAA23504: ruleset=check_mail,
arg1=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
relay=smtp3160.bmb.dotster.com [63.251.171.172],
reject=451 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>... Domain does not resolve
Nov 1 21:38:21 gaia sendmail[23504]: VAA23504:
from=<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, size=0, class=0, pri=0,
nrcpts=0, proto=SMTP, relay=smtp3160.bmb.dotster.com [63.251.171.172]
'dig bounce.dotregistrar.com.' returns NXDOMAIN, no such domain.
Naturally we do not accept mail addressed from non-existent domains as
a primary spam filtering method, as do many if not most mail servers.
Since these do not get as far as checking recipient, I cannot tell which
of our members you may be trying to contact. If these delivery attempts
are indeed genuine, I would suggest resending from a valid DNS domain.
Regards, Ian ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
