Some companies like having the feature to perform a WHOIS on there websites.
I have now fixed this for us just used a socket to open up to port 43 rather
than getting the contents of http://whois.ausrgeistry.net.au

Can you give some examples of why au domain registrars would need
to use whois in their systems, rather than whois-check or EPP?
