In my case I like to add the installation year in the hostname, but for
usability I also use a generic alias as well. Precisely like in the
example I provided so "nas-2024" but also simply "nas". Both have a
value to me.I'm not too intimate with dhcp, but *usually* when you have multiple of
the same option (e.g. dhcp option 12 "host name") they are concatenated.
So in your example you would not get two host names "nas-2024" and "nas"
but instead one "nas-2024nas" host name which is probably not what you
meant.
Again, I may be missing some feature of dhcp.
