I like the idea. What seems complicated (the signing scheme, the
involvement of the RIRen, etc) is to me the result of a careful
consideration. 

I especially like the RIR involvement. While most domain name holders have
issues with some of the gTLD or ccTLD registries, I sense no such amount of
"issue" with the RIR trio. In a less than perfect world the RIRen are
trusted by most, and they are to me a natural place for the root zone "key
work".

Bonus points for not using a not-for-profit company in California ;-)
