Indeed. Please let's not go down the SMTP QUIT path (and all the flammage that produced). TCP FIN communicates intent just fine. (As an aside, I've always wonder what a client should do if a server responds 5XX to QUIT? Issue a SUDO QUIT command?). Mark.
