Pentagon Cancels Internet Voting System
JOHN J. LUMPKIN
Associated Press

Citing security concerns, the Pentagon has canceled Internet voting
that would have involved as many as 100,000 military and overseas
citizens from seven states in November, a Defense Department official
said Thursday.

The announcement comes two weeks after outside security experts urged
the program's cancellation in a scathing report. They said hackers or

Markham's online elections get vote of approval from percentage of
electorate

2/4/2004 2:06:43 PM - Most of those who voted over Internet did so
from comfort of their own homes

by Kathleen Sibley

The residents of Markham, Ont. have voted -- not just for their mayor
and council, but for a new way of electing them.

The town, located just north of Toronto with a population of about
220,000, piloted Internet voting during a 10-day early voting period
before election day on Nov. 10.

According
to CIO James Allen, of the 150,000 registered voters, 12,000 pre-
registered to cast their votes electronically. Of those, more than
7,000 voted over the Internet, either from home, public libraries or
at touch-screen kiosks at City Hall.

Philippines e-voting system hung by non-technical glitch
MANILA: Plans by the Philippines to use computers for the first time
to count ballots in May 10 elections were set back and probably sunk
Tuesday when the Supreme Court nullified a multimillion-dollar
equipment contract it said was illegally awarded by the Elections
Commission.

However, electoral officials said the poll -- to determine the fate
of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo -- would go ahead on schedule.
