This is the first large scale effort to allow government produced information alerts to reach U.S. mobile phone users. Amber alerts are about missing children. In general, I am very interested in any information access and dissemination methods that engage the public is solving a public problem, be it missing children, crime watch, etc.. On that note, the City of Chicago has a disclaimer filled system <http://12.17.79.6> on crime statistics (with mapping) that has lead to a more user friendly non-government version using the same data <http://www.chicagocrime.org>.
