For the second year in a row, Taiwan and Singapore lead the United States in overall e-government performance, while China and Hong Kong are close behind. The fifth annual survey conducted by Professor Darrell M. West of the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown University evaluated 1,797 government websites in 198 countries during June and July, 2005. A second study looked in-depth at e-government in the United States. Of the 50 American states, Utah and Maine are the best states for e-government, while at the national level, the White House and the Department of the State are the most highly rated sites.
