Meeks MSNBC.com "A majority of Americans believe increasing the number of online government services should be made a priority, according to a recently released survey. The survey � conducted by Andersen Consulting � also showed that a majority of those responding would be comfortable casting their votes online. IF SUCH A SYSTEM were in place for this year�s presidential election, 61 percent surveyed said they would use it. That figure represents a dramatic increase in traditional presidential election turnout, which averages about half of all registered voters. State and local governments are leading the trend toward implementing online services. However, the federal government is studying the feasibility of putting more of its own services online. Such services include applying for various licenses, paying fines, registering for classes and paying taxes. Online voting is still in its infancy, though some recent high-profile experiments show promise."
