I see why you came up with this idea, but I think that there are better ways than to add numbers and names to existing texts.
a way known to work is to use the String search method for Kbabel. Kbabel (when build with DB support) can load all the strings in a DB, and then allow nice things like quick search. once you load the PO files in the TB for Kbabel, you can easily search for a string, and it will give you exactly the entries for it in all files, and their translation, for you to double click and change.
