FYI, based on the positive feedback I've received, the new page is going live
at:

  http://www.e-smith.org/cgi-bin/contrib.cgi

It was suggested that I should break out the categories with a separate table
under each category... and there are two issues with that: 1) I don't want the
page to get too long, and if it starts getting too long then you really need a
table of contents on top... and I'm trying to keep it simple; and 2) the
dynamic generation of this page is currently done by a really simple python
CGI program that I wrote. It just takes each really long line of a data file
(contrib.txt, visible at http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/contrib.txt),
splits the line on the pipe character ('|') and then wraps some HTML around
it. So generation of a simple table is trivial.

At some point in time, I *would* like to group the categories better - for
instance merging all the cells in the table under one category (so, for
example, the "Backup" cell would (currently) span 4 cells vertically).
This just requires reading all the data into a data structure, with the
categories in a list and figuring out how many there are, etc. I know what
it has to do... I just don't have the time to do anything with it for the
near future. But eventually I'll take a break and take another whack at it.

That's the scoop,
Dan
