According to the definitive information at http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/InstallingAProcessor.html, graphicsize.extension is usable only with Saxon or Xalan. IMO, it wouldn't be hard to write the extensions for xsltproc on Linux/Unix, but then you'd have to build a custom xsltproc unless you can get the extensions accepted into the standard xsltproc.
