Embedding one of the base14 fonts (of which Helvetica is one) can be a
problem if you don't own the font. Most PDF browsers and printers have a
built-in Helvetica font, so an application like fop just needs the font
metrics (character widths) to specify and typeset Helvetica, relying on
the downstream renderer to supply the font outlines when the text is
rendered. I don't know if a Mac OS X has the font outlines for Helvetica.

Subject: [docbook-apps] Producing PrintQuailty PDF with Apache fop
How can I produce print quality PDF files with Apache fop?
With -pdfprofile PDF/A-1b I get a complaint that fop can't embed the
font Helvetica-Bold, because it can't be found. What is the reason?
I am using Mac OS X 10.4.10 Tiger.
