I've just upgraded one of my Linux machines to Fedora Core 7 and have
begun seeing out of memory exceptions using admon.graphics when
generating a PDF file. My Fedora Core 6 machine still works fine.
I've tried using both FOP 0.93 and FOP 0.94 on FC7 as well as both
Jimi and JAI to handle the graphics. The out of memory exception is
a known FOP problem with no reported fix.
The Java -Xms and -Xmx options do not help?

Nope, I specified -Xms=2048000000 -Xmx=4096000000 which ought to
eat up all my memory/swap, and it still blew up the same way.

More info. I upgraded my machine to Fedora Core 8, gij 4.1.2, and
used FOP 0.94 with the above -Xms and -Xmx. The good news - I no
longer get the exception. The bad news, the admon graphics no
longer appear in the PDF.

Found a solution for FOP. Apparently in Fedora Core 7, the gij java
runtime environment replaced the Sun JRE. It's the one with the
problem. I downloaded the latest JRE from Sun and pointed my PATH to
it. Everything now works.
