I've just put the finishing touches on a Python module to assist in the programmatic construction of XSL-FO files. It's built on top of lxml:

I realize XSL-FO is a dead standard, but so long as DocBook and DITA are around, it'll be supported. Can anyone suggest a better route from Python to PDF?
