Hi Robert,
You will need to customize a couple of templates for this. For the first
chapter, use the 'initial.page.number' template described here:

http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/PrintHeaders.html#InitialPageNumber

It can be customized to add an xsl:when to test for the first chapter, and give
it an 'auto-odd' value.

But the preface must also be forced to end on an even page (auto-odd does not
insert blank pages, it just skips to the next odd number for the current page).
You will need to customize the template named 'force.page.count' described
here:

http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/PrintHeaders.html#EndingPageNumber

The original templates can be found in fo/pagesetup.xsl.

Subject: [docbook-apps] forcing only the first chapter to be recto -- how?

Hi, there.

I want the first chapter and the preface to appear on the recto side, but after
that, I really don't want chapters to appear on the recto side.

I have set these parameters:

    <xsl:param name="double.sided" select="1"></xsl:param>
    <xsl:param name="force.blank.pages" select="0"></xsl:param>

This puts the preface on the right side, but the chapter one of the left side
(and all chapters on wherever they happen to land.

I tried putting <?hard-pagebreak?> at the bottom of the preface, but that
didn't work. Any idea how to do this?

Thanks. Robert
