The XSL 1.0 standard did not have elements for PDF bookmarks, but the XSL 1.1 (dating from 2006) standard does. Now it seems all XSL-FO processors support the standard fo:bookmark-tree and fo:bookmark elements. That means the custom bookmark elements that had to be maintained for each processor can be turned off and the standard bookmark elements used. Are there any objections to doing so?

I could leave in the disabled templates in case someone needs them for an old version of the FO processor or for their customization. However, if you did use customized bookmarks, the next docbook-xsl release would require you to make some changes.
