There’s a hierarchy: 1. If you specify $gentext-language, that’s used. End of story. You want all the generated text to be in Thai even though the book claims to be in German, you got it. Why, I don’t know. 2. Otherwise, if you specify a language, that’s used. 3. Otherwise, the $default-language is used. If there’s a use case for xml:lang="", I don’t know what it is.
