Remko,

This may be cheating, but I have used the <colophon>
element and set the title to be "About the Author."
I've also done the same, but left the title as "Colophon"
and added bridgeheads for "About the Book," "About the
Author," etc. 

If you just put the information you want inside a
colophon element at the end of the book, that won't
require any customization, as long as you're happy
with the default look of a colophon.
