I think this approach solves so many problems! e.g. no need for having a box for a content -- no problem with long <pre> lines.

Well, there are those things called "templates", you know.
still it's quite a mess to work with heavy html. Though if you look at the splash library that we use a bit. It takes all these worries away.
One note, though: the menu looks bad now, just image it somehow different ...
