default base font size

Since I've changed the css to use 1em as a default font the site looks 
extremely bad, since these big fonts are ugly. At least that's what I 
see in mozilla, NS, opera on linux. May be that's because of the 
installed fonts on Linux, but the smaller fonts are definitely look 
nicer. Of course I'm talking only about what I see.

I've done a quick poll and it seems that most of the sites use their 
default font as <font size="-1">. I guess most browser's default 1em is 
too big to be nice. Shouldn't we roll back to 0.8em in css?
