I suggest to have a different approach to make it stand out: Make it narrower than the page width. It's very hard to read wide text.

I didn't see it on your index.html (which I was viewing standalone) was I supposed to drop it into the production tree?
The problem with the fading bar, is that 'pdf' link doesn't fit there.
