* some people are color-blind
* some people may read it on B&W terminals (really?)
* some people print on the B&W printers (and shades of grey are hard to distinguish)
* could give you a bunch of other reasons if you ask for :)
i agree with everyone that copy paste would be great, so on this preview the normal user is blue and root is red (and font bold).
I guess we simply need to weight the benefits of each style. If we remove the prompt it's easier to copy-n-paste, but more confusing..
I think multi-line copy-n-paste won't work properly everywhere in any case, because some browsers insert new lines when they wrap long lines.
