+1 I have noticed the lack of speed.
Nah, .htaccess has been there for a while, and the speed decrease is because of heavy traffic on apache.org after the security fix for chunked request body.
I didn't say that recent additions to .htaccess made the reponses slower, I was talking in general. I guess a proper benchmark will be better than thousands words.
