*Meeting Minutes....
Attendees*
Barbara Higgins, Cindy Swearingen, Alta Elstad, Jyothi Srinath, Kelly
Nishimura, Barbara Lundquist, Dolores Eccles, Wenling Chen.
* AI review
o Minibook inputs: Alan has been working with evangelists on
revising a top-down outline for the GSG minibook. Will work
with writers to determine how much of this outline can be
realized by next release. Will continue to vet the doc as
development proceeds. Closing this AI.
o Part number for wiki docs: Historically, with last release,
there was a part number for the wiki-based admin guide. It
was only used as the name of the directory of HTML files
used as source by G11N. Alan mentioned other groups doing
wiki-based docs (e.g, Comms Suite and xVM ops centers) are
not using part numbers for their "snapshots." Keeping item
open. Alan to continue discussions with G11N for clarity on
what's required.
* Doc specs - Q&A
o Alan reminded writers to submit doc specs by end of the week
and let him know if any questions.
o Cindy mentioned admin doc team has been redirected to help
with training materials.
* Doc title guidelines
o Paul asked to add this to the agenda. We haven't established
guidelines, so doc titles are inconsistent.
o Alan argued for lightweight guidelines. Mentioned that small
group determined to prefix OpenSolaris release_date to
titles for some of the 2008.11 docs.
o Everyone agreed this was useful practice, so will adopt for
titles of traditional docs in next release.
o Alta noted that "dynamic" wiki docs currently have
OpenSolaris 2008.11. Alan suggested that with wiki-based
docs, should apply this naming convention when snapshot is
made.
o Alan asked if doc titles for tradition docs should be more
role/task based. Jyothi suggested the contents (headings) be
role/task based, but not necessarily the doc title.
* Metrics review - leftover from last session: - Doc community
metrics for January
<http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pzCosgzxVSeXF2GqxVJmQWw>
o Alan reminded folks that tracking for 3 main community
sites: OpenSolaris docs community portal on .org site,
docs-discuss forum, and OpenSolaris Info Resource wiki. Some
items of interest:
o Now collecting actual number of downloads of the docs
consolidation and man tarball.
o Sun sites are biggest referrers to the docs community.
o Alan mentioned he's watching membership of docs-discuss as
gauge of community participation. Data shows big drop in
last month, but largely result of the Sun RIF. Excluding
that, there were 9 new subscribers and 10 unsubscribers, so
a fair amount of coming and going.
o Wiki traffic continues to increase, but Alan suspicious of
"unspecified" referrers .
o Compared traffic to wiki admin doc (>1750 page views) with
HTML snapshot (>2300 page views).
* Reminder: OpenSolaris Constitution / OGB elections - See poll
status and instructions <http://poll.opensolaris.org/>.
o Alan noted polls close 3/23.
