Paul Kasper, Diane Plampin, Alta Elstad.
*Agenda*
* Happy New Year.
* AI Review
o No open AIs, but quick check... any status on 2008.11
postmortem?
o Kathleen reports modest inputs thus far. Will send out
another reminder for feedback.
* Looking backward/forward...
* *Looking backward*
o Published 9 docs in specific support of the 2008.11 release.
+ All documents open sourced
+ New docs - Automated Installer Guide, COMSTAR
Administration Guide, Distribution Constructor Guide,
Image Packaging System Guide, Media Management System
Administration Guide, System Administration Guide,
Managing Boot Environment
+ Great public review of GSG and Device Driver doc in
blog: See link here
<http://reddevil62-techhead.blogspot.com/2008/12/opensolaris-200811-its-time-is-coming.html>
o Made initial foray into wiki authoring/publishing.
Information strategy team drove and this docs integration
group established...
+ Licensing strategy for wiki docs.
+ "Release support" snapshot strategy for wiki docs.
(Although we had to jump through hoops to execute
snapshot strategy.)
o Made navigational and organizational changes to docs
community web site. Based on user analysis and community
input,attempting to focus on community activity first.
o Supported 2 Student Pack (AKA BTSK) releases (one complete,
one in progress).
o Community activity
+ Opened bi-weekly docs integration meeting to community
participation. While participation has been modest,
intent is to be transparent.
+ Agenda and minutes shared with community.
+ Alan notes stellar participation from Rainer Heilke
and Mark Brundage to work through the tool chain to
create PDF tarball of open sourced docs.
+ Work to refine and re-baseline metrics on community
activity.
o Supported mini-book of Getting Started material -- Assembled
content from multiple sources.
o Diane gives kudos for impressive list of accomplishments.
* *Looking Forward...*
o Grow community population.
o Grow community contributions.
o Assess / prototype OpenSolaris
<http://infoshare.sfbay/twiki/bin/view/Main/OpenSolaris> xwiki.
o Better up-front planning for secondary deliveries (e.g, mini
book)
o Increase user-friendly content presence for OpenSolaris
<http://infoshare.sfbay/twiki/bin/view/Main/OpenSolaris>.com
user.
o Continue to drive/evolve Solaris/OpenSolaris information
strategy vis-a-vis OpenSolaris
<http://infoshare.sfbay/twiki/bin/view/Main/OpenSolaris>
marketing strategy. (Decision team diving into details)
o Identify minimum tools needs and secure support for automation
* BTSK update (Wenling)
o Wenling working on legal and due diligence.
o ISV team building / testing VDI build. They are to validate
the new instructions on installing VB from the resource DVD
and configuring VB to use the VDI.
o Wenling notes Charlie Boyle is looking for a place to
capture special instructions for accessing packages in the
repositories. Alan suggests the README file. (The doc TOC
not designed for this, but it already has a prominent link
to the README file.)
* Contributor grants
o Alan reminds folks about Ceri's list announcement
<http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=85457&tstart=0>
that contributor grants are expiring soon.
+ Contributor. A participant who has been acknowledged
by one or more Community Groups as having
substantively contributed toward accomplishing the
tasks of that Community Group,
+ Core Contributor. A Contributor who is an active and
sustained contributor to any Community Group and
accepts designation as such by said Group shall be
termed a Core Contributor for said Group and granted
the status of Member for the OpenSolaris
<http://infoshare.sfbay/twiki/bin/view/Main/OpenSolaris>
Community as a whole.
o Alan to post list of grants that are soon to expire and
follow up with more info on the rules and procedures.
o Alta notes anyone can nominate a core contributor, but only
core contributor can vote (or, more accurately, only their
votes count).
* How To template See link here
<http://wikis.sun.com/pages/templates/viewpagetemplate.action?pageTemplateId=62357513&key=OpenSolarisInfo>.
o Background: Wiki lowers technical barrier to entry, but want
to be sure we provide a format that invites users to share
their knowledge. (Potentially easier entry point than trying
to wedge into one of our books.)
o Alan notes this template has been through editorial review
and inputs.
o Paul wonders how to present these "how-tos" on the wiki and
community sites.
o Alan and Paul to work out a plan. Alta expresses sensitivity
with the idea of separating Sun-generated docs with
community-generated docs (e.g., seems like that's what's
happened with the Muskoka project). Alan says that is not
the intent of these templates. Anyone can and should
leverage this template if they have procedural information
to share. (Says he hopes to write them himself if he can
make time for it.)
