Having received sufficient positive feedback I'm going to tenatively schedule a "Docs Leadership Meeting" for Thursday, May 22nd at 1PM PDT. This schedule is flexible and we can move it if enough people deem it appropriate, but its always easier to work from a date than just ask for input.
I call this a leadership meeting because I think all of us currently Core Contribs of Docs would like to improve our coordination, with Sun and with eachother. However, this is a free software project... if you _want_ to be a leader you have the ability to become one on your merit and this meeting should provide an excellent opportunity to exert that merit. Likewise, those who do not wish to be leaders of the Docs CG but simply would like to coordinate with fellow authors, whether thats someone helping in forums, or writing a blog, or working on traditional techpubs professionally or otherwise. Speaking for myself, I first and foremost want to help others... I think most authors do it for the same reason. But OpenSolaris provides us also with an opportunity to learn with the pro's and seasoned authors within Sun, thus allowing us not only to help others but also help ourselves. New media and old media and the strange mix that has become commonplace today, we can all learn from each other to produce something better and more innovative. So... one and all, please come and join us. Given that this is the first meeting of its kind I don't expect attendance to be high but we'll learn and adjust in future meetings. I'll act as a secretary if no one else desires the job. The meeting will not be parliamentary, but we'll find our own structure.... remember, chief among all, free software is supposed to be about fun; everything else comes naturally out of that. benr.
