Ben, thanks for driving Doc Leadership meeting. Good discussion. There was healthy input about the role of wikis in open source project documentation. I recently blogged about a conversation I had at Community One with Karsten Wade from Fedora on this subject. (See http://blogs.sun.com/docexchange/). The gist is, Fedora worked through some of the same issues we're talking about with regard to structured or unstructured content (although they admittedly didn't have volume of existing documentation that Sun provides for OpenSolaris). Their level of community contribution went up significantly as they moved to a wiki-based contribution model. They then invested some time/effort in converting into a structured format for outputting to multiple formats.
