Hi,

I know, it really had become painful. Here are the specifics I got in an
announcement made Monday:
<snip>
Today the docs.sun.com engineering team has migrated its infrastructure
to a new web-hosting environment.
The benefits of this move are:

1. Performance Increase: Our testing has shown performance
improvements which
will greatly benefit users who have been frustrated with the time it
takes to browse
to documents on the site.

2. Improved Reliability / Sustainability: The move gives docs.sun.com
a platform on which we can build for the future. The site is now hosted
in a stable
environment and will be more reliable for our customers.

This release is a strong step in the right direction to rebuild the
faith of users of
docs.sun.com in the site. We look forward to announcing many more
improvements
over the coming months.
</snip>

Thanks for your patience with this, please pass on the news to others
who may have turned away from the site. The web team is totally
re-indexing the entire site contents for a new search engine now as
well. I'll let you know when that work is completed.

Thanks,
Michelle
